Sincere thanks to everyone who came out to the Auction and made bids or put donations toward the library. I think the event was pretty successful overall (though maybe we should wait for Ms. MacDougal's word on that front!) and I was more than happy to be a part of it.

I'm really looking forward to the event at The Victoria this weekend. Looking forward to a Singles Auction - I never thought I'd say that. But, besides being a questionable great way to meet new people and win some great date packages, it's also the annual fundraiser for our local public library. My old place of employment, as most of you probably know. It's been really great to go back and help out a little with this, even if it's only from the location end of things - set up, etc. I'm just glad I can do a little part again, at least.
I wasn't counting on being entered in the thing, of course. But - and perhaps I should've expected this, knowing my employees the way I do - one of the bartenders put my name in with the rest of them and, apparently, I absolutely have to do that walk of shame across that stage or else. I'm not sure what the hanging threat there is, seeing as I more or less control all the strings in this relationship (at least monetarily), but I'm going to be nice and comply. Why not? It's for a good cause even if it's mortifying.
I sincerely hope we will see all of you there as well!

It was my birthday yesterday. Apparently this must run in my family, because, not unlike my dear niece not long past...I forgot. Other people did not, thankfully (I suppose), but I was honestly taken aback when the staff brought out the surprise cake at the end of the evening.
Even more thankfully, they did not choose to represent my age with the number of candles. I'm pretty sure that would be a fire hazard at this point.

I've burned through my own summer reading list already, so I figured I might ask here - does anybody have any recommendations? Book wise? I think I might take a day off this week and just sit at the beach and enjoy something.
My mother found this shocking. I found it a sign that it's about time.

Summer seems like it's finally paid a visit - if not officially by the calendar, at least in the sense that the weather has certainly been playing nicer the last few weeks, occasional bouts of spring rain aside. I'm sure plenty of you have been looking forward to this time of year. Me? I'm not so much a hot weather kind of person. Suntanning at the beach doesn't hold much appeal to me and I don't quite enjoy the humidity that often comes with the season, but it does mean a bit of a boom in business - not that we're ever really lacking, but. Yes, tourist season is upon us.
Don't get me wrong, I love my town, but I'll never quite get the appeal that it holds to travelers - but, I suppose that's just because I've lived here for all of my....thirty-seven years. You forget what makes a place unique, sometimes. And, I guess we do have that three mile stretch of the country's first public beach and cheap accommodation close to Boston to thank for the summer season boom.
I'm trying to put together a calendar of slightly more unusual, if not exciting (hopefully both?), events for The Victoria for the upcoming months. This isn't exactly my area of expertise, though, being an exceedingly boring person myself - it's okay, I can admit it. So, this would be an ideal time for any of you to pipe up with thoughts, if you have them. I promise to take any kind of ideas for events for the bar into genuine consideration.
And, Nicole, Spencer? Just let me know which date you'd like to hold your fundraiser, and I'll try to work around it. However, a Monday or Wednesday would be best.
Lastly - Staff. I urge you to be a little more careful with who you're serving and ID checking. We've had a few...incidents lately, and the last thing I need is a handful of fines to deal with.

I must admit, I've actually enjoyed these past few weeks. I think I'd completely forgotten what it was like to have honest-to-god free time (without worry, even) - and while I do miss my position at the library very much, it's been nice. For one, I've actually had time to catch up on my sleep reading a little now - I can feel slightly less shameful about that, at least. I think I'd still like to help out with the library fundraisers, though, when I can. Leah, I hope you will keep me in the loop. It would be very much appreciated!
Onto more exciting topics - my niece will be graduating from Boston University within a few weeks now, though I am not looking forward to her other grandparents arriving and having to talk at length about how proud Lily and Evan would've been--. We're all very proud of her, though I think my mother is the most...Jenna, please stop by sometime soon, she's been baking you study snacks en masse and it's getting a little ridiculous.
Anyways, it must've been all that pride affecting my judgment, but I think I actually somehow agreed to host her graduation party at The Victoria that Sunday night and to let her friends drink on the house, sigh--. I'm a little shocked myself - though I have no doubts that the old place will be able to handle a group of overly intoxicated excited college graduates just fine. I hope you'll all stop by the evening of the 16th to congratulate her. And, of course, the first floor will be open for business as well - surprise!
